KIDS

Children’s Krav Maga, referred to as ‘Kids Krav Maga’ was developed by the IKMF as part of the Krav Maga self-defence solutions created for the various civilian sectors.

Kids Krav Maga teaches children, in a relatively short period, to learn self-defence techniques carefully adapted to match their respective age, physical and mental capabilities.

Through IKMF Krav Maga training, the children are taught how to recognize threats common to them like bullies (same age or older children as attackers) and kidnappers (adult attackers). The training also aims to build their self-esteem and confidence, while instilling respect and discipline.

IKMF Kids Krav Maga methods, especially in the younger age group, are mostly taught through Krav Maga games. The games teach the children how to follow instructions, develop coordination, and encourage assertiveness. They are taught how to avoid confrontation, and how to defend themselves when necessary in order to escape.

Kids Krav Maga openly and cautiously explains attack scenarios that kids may encounter: bullying by a classmate or by an unknown adult, kidnapping by a stranger, or a physical attack by an adult known to them, just to name a few. They will learn what their options are, as well as the appropriate response for each situation.

The IKMF system divides Kids’ Krav Maga to three main age categories: 5-7 is Kiddy Krav Maga, 7-11 is Kids Krav Maga, and 11-16 is Junior Krav Maga. There are variations in techniques and teaching methods, taking into consideration their capabilities at their age. As with the adult students, they advance to the next level when they pass their grade test.

The International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) Ireland offer regular classes for Kids & Junior Krav Maga.
